| The Killing of Angel Street |
Donald Crombie's gritty political thriller thrusts Jessica Simmonds (Elizabeth Alexander) and Marxist union leader Elliot (the sensational John Hargreaves) into the centre of a turbulent maelstrom, as they do battle with property developers and the police to save a neighbourhood of old terraces earmarked for demolition.
Inspired by the death of reporter Juanita Nielsen and the inner Sydney conflicts over high-rise development in the mid 1970s, Crombie's low-key, socio-realist tale upholds the conviction that a few committed individuals can combat corruption in high places.
Nominated for a Golden Bear at the 1982 Berlin Film Festival.
