landmark new gallery for acmi
Ab Rogers Design
An international partnership has been appointed to design and deliver a landmark new gallery at ACMI featuring a permanent exhibition celebrating the history and future of the moving image at Australia's home of screen culture.
After a global search for a design partner for the gallery, ACMI Director Tony Sweeney announced that a collaboration between London based Ab Rogers Design and Melbourne's award winning Denton Corker Marshall (DCM) had been appointed.
The gallery will offer a free year-round exhibition celebrating the moving image in all its forms, film, television, games, new media and art. It will encompass the entire ground floor of ACMI creating an interactive, immersive, and exciting exhibition targeting tourists, families and the education sector.
Ab Rogers Design has delivered cultural projects for the Tate Modern (London), Victoria and Albert Museum (London), Science Museum (London) and Centre Pompidou (Paris) while DCM is recognised for its landmark major projects including the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Melbourne Museum and the Melbourne Gateway.
The gallery, which is being funded by the Victorian Government, will open in 2008.
