real-life high rollers at poker kings world premiere!
The world premiere of Poker Kings, happening at ACMI cinemas on Tuesday 11 May, is shaping up to be a big night for both the film and poker communities.
With the film's premiere coinciding (happily) with the Melbourne Hold'em Championship, ACMI box office staff have reported real-life poker enthusiasts booking in droves to grab a slice of the action.
Poker Kings - the highly anticipated new documentary from the AFI award-winning director of Original Schtick, Maciek Wszelaki - is screening as part of Popcorn Taxi's film-maker Q & A series.
Every May in glittering, cacophonous Las Vegas, the world's best poker players pay up to $10,000 of their own money to compete for the $2.5 million first prize in the ultimate card game ... the World Series of Poker.
Two-and-a-half years in the making, Poker Kings follows the high stakes journey of five players over 12 months. It entails passion, skill, naked ambition, occasional recklessness . and a bit of luck.
As they ride the tournament rollercoaster around the world, the players attempt to weave their personal lives around their obsession, competing with each other, and their own frailties, in a quest to win poker's Holy Grail.
