ACMI and Melbourne Cinémathèque are thrilled to announce the Australian Premiere of 96-year-old Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira's 38th film, straight from competition at Venice Film Festival.
Having just collected the Gold Hugo for lifetime achievement at the Chicago Film Festival, de Oliveira, subject of a current
Cinémathèque retrospective, shows no signs of slowing down and is commencing production on a sequel to Bunuel's
Belle de Jour.
Reflective, erudite and laced with wry humour, the elegant dialogue and slow-build of
Magic Mirror echo its literary origins in the work of Agustina Bessa-Luis. It features a shining cameo from Michel Picolli.
