come on in, we're open

ACMI will be open right through the Christmas - New Year period, closed only for 25 December. Here are some of the exciting things we have in store:

Music and pop culture lovers, you won't want to miss Wattstax, which commences on Boxing Day and screens daily until January 13. Part documentary, part concert movie, Wattstax is a rich tapestry of people, politics and funky sounds centred around the 1972 Watts Summer Festival, a legendary concert that commemorated the 1967 Watts riots in Los Angeles. Join Reverend Jesse Jackson, a very young Richard Pryor and a who's who of the Stax music label for powerhouse performances, impromptu chats about life and music and some of the biggest flares, afros and bling you'll ever see!

ACMI's regular cinema programs will continue to run through the period with the following features:

Mr Bean's Holiday screens in Seniors Cinema on 29 & 31 December, featuring Rowan Atkinson reprising the role of Mr Bean, the rubber-faced character British television first introduced to audiences in 1990.

Australian Perspectives brings you Crackers (Sat 29 Dec) - a cheerfully raucous comedy about the inevitable horrors of a family Christmas reunion. Features a fantastic ensemble cast that includes Peter Rowsthorn, Terry Gill and Maggie King.

On 28 December, Freaky Fridays is all deadpan with everyone's favourite dysfunctional New York family, The Royal Tenenbaums.

And Kids Flicks features a special encore screening of Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring Johnny Depp as the maniacal genius, Willy Wonka.

As well as our cinema programs, you can also drop into the screen gallery to see our latest major exhibition Replay Christian Marclay, featuring large-scale projections and dramatic sound. Includes the Australian premieres of Video Quartet (2002), a four-screen display of music-related scenes from feature films, and Crossfire (2007), a symphony of gunshots compiled using excerpts from Hollywood films.

Or try your hand at ground breaking (and highly addictive) new videogames in our Best of the Indepedent Games Festival 2007 showcase (ACMI Games Lab).

Whatever your age, there's something for everyone this festive season at ACMI.
