Artist Biography

Fiona Hall was born in Sydney in 1953 and has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally since the 1980s. Underpinned by her continuing investigation into the relationship between nature and culture, Hall's recent works seek connections between colonial history, global trade, consumerism and the environment. Hall's works are the result of a meticulous approach that is evident in the complexity of ideas contained within each work as much as their material construction. In 2005 Fiona Hall was the subject of a major survey exhibition at the Queensland Art Gallery. Hall lives in Adelaide and is represented by Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney.

Artist Statement

We've been all too busy shoring up our world to make it safe from the perils of Nature. Now here we reside, stranded on our island of (in)humanity, surrounded by waters we have muddied and sifting, like so many grains of sand, the myriad of our kindred species into extinction through our fingers.
