| The Seven Days |
Three generations of a Moroccan-Jewish family dream of hitting the road in this heartfelt drama directed by acclaimed Israeli actress Ronit Elkabetz (
The Band's Visit) and her brother Shlomi Elkabetz.
It is 1991, during the first Gulf War, when Israel was under daily missile attack. But for the Ohaion family, tragedy has struck unexpectedly: beloved Maurice, one of nine brothers and sisters and the mainstay of the family, has passed away.
As the members of this extended family gather to sit shiva for the requisite seven days of mourning, during which they are not allowed to leave the house, the intensity of the situation ignites old rivalries, passions and financial concerns.
Winner of the Best Feature Film and Best Actress (Hana Azoulay-Hasfari) awards at this year's Jerusalem Film Festival,
The Seven Days is an intensely observed portrait of a family caught between the overwhelming presence of death and the inspiring fullness of life. The film boasts an impressive cast that includes many of Israel's best actors, including Elkabetz herself, Yael Abecassis and Moshe Ivgy.
