See it you will
Fanboys
Ever tried to build your own lightsabre with a torch and a cardboard tube?
Perhaps you've had fantasies of Princess Leia in that costume, or a crush on that "stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking, nerf herder" called Han Solo?
Ever tried the Jedi mind trick on your partner to get them to take out the rubbish? Then prepare for light speed because Long Play will be going into hyperdrive.
In two weeks' time we'll be screening an Australian premiere season of Fanboys, Kyle Newman's tribute to Star Wars geeks and freaks.
Set in 1998, the film follows four fanboys and one fangirl from Ohio who embark on a quest to storm George Lucas' impenetrable Skywalker Ranch to see a rough cut of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace before it hits the theatres.
Along the way they battle a band of Trekkies (including one Seth Rogen), get a hot tip from Harry Ain't It Cool News Knowles, meet up with a Deep Throat figure who looks a lot like Captain James T. Kirk and encounter Judge Reinhold (who looks nothing like Judge Reinhold the actor, but a lot like Lando Calrissian).
You don't need to know your hydro-spanners from your Jawa blasters to get the jokes; anyone who's ever seen a Star Wars flick will get a kick out of this road trip movie about five fans who wear their hearts - and their geekdom - on their sleeves.
Laugh it up, fuzzballs! Details here
PS. If you're here for the opening night, don't be surprised if you run into Vader or one of his Stormtrooper minions. We recommend bringing a camera just in case!
