Jay Rosenblatt's compiled archival footage of the dictators Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Mao and Stalin presents disturbingly human biographies. It shows the dictators in the company of loved ones, enjoying food and drink and relaxing in the countryside, while intimate details of their dietary, domestic and sexual habits are relayed on the soundtrack.
The more detailed, factual and banal the content the more confronting and disturbing the film becomes for the audience.
