| La Maison de Nina |
Featuring a wonderful performance from Agnès Jaoui (
Look at Me, The Taste of Others),
La Maison de Nina is a quietly magnificent and classically told story about the tentative readjustment to normal life of Jewish children in the aftermath of the war.
In France from late 1944, and continuing through to the early 1960s, children's homes were established to provide shelter for homeless and, later, deported children orphaned by the war. Among the thousands who found refuge in such homes was Elie Wiesel. The film focuses on one country residence just outside Paris, where the tireless Nina works hard to comfort and provide for the children in her care as they learn to live again.
Beautifully written and intensely felt,
La Maison de Nina transports us magically into another time and place.
Australian premiere.
