Rappin' to the Moving Image

This highly interactive performance workshop, designed for Middle Years students 5-9, engages the world of hip-hop culture with that of the moving image.

This program supports the implementation of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS), drawing together the three strands and supporting student growth across the domains.

Local rap artists perform for students and then guide them through the process of writing their own raps in response to screened moving images. The students will write, rehearse and then perform their raps in front of the images on the big screen, before a live studio audience.  When not performing the students will become the audience, interacting with fellow performers and cheering them on.

This program is designed to:
  • enhance student's understanding of the creative process by planning, writing, rehearsing and then performing their own work in a team environment.

During this program students will:

  •  watch a live rap show
  •  work in a group to produce a unique rap with the help of visual stimulus
  •  plan and rehearse their group's performance
  •  perform in front of a live audience.
Richmond West Primary School students were so inspired by MC J-Flow during their Rappin to the Moving Image workshop at ACMI that they sent in these new raps.

Hey my name is Erick
School is cool
I'm kind of tall
I like to play football
I don't like cats
But I like to wear hats
I like to watch TV
That's all about me

Skate Rap

I like to skate I do it with my mates
I can do a kick flip and I can hold a lip trick
I can get air but we play fair
We wear helmets or we'II break our pelvis
When I stack I don't crack it
I give it a bash but I might get gravel rash
My friends are good when we ride our wood
When we go to Fed Sq I always get my share
Cool as!
