The Sex Pistols unleash anarchy in the United States and subsequently self-destruct in two special screenings of D.O.A as part of Freaky Fridays at ACMI.

In his documentary of the Sex Pistols' 1978 American tour - the only one they undertook with Sid Vicious - Lech Kowalski captures the bedlam and controversy of the early punk scene.

The Sex Pistols are featured performing much of their classic repertoire in clubs and concert halls, blazing a path of destruction across the southern states.

Incidents included Sid Vicious hitting a fan in the head with his bass guitar and performing in Dallas, Texas, with the words "Gimme a fix" carved into his chest.

At the tour's end in San Francisco, Johnny Rotten famously quipped, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

The rarely screened D.O.A has also become notorious for its 'on the nod' interview with Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen.

The doomed punk couple are filmed in their bedroom with Spungen screeching at Vicious for his failure to keep awake while the interview is in process.

It's a vivid record of their troubled relationship, which would end with Spungen stabbed to death in a New York hotel later that year.

Filled with footage of bands such as The Clash, Sham 69, X-Ray Spex and the Rich Kids, this film is a must for any music fan.

D.O.A screens at part of Freaky Fridays on 9 Feb and 23 Feb 2007 at 10pm.
