tune in to tv50
ACMI is celebrating the 50th anniversary of television broadcasting in Australia with the unveiling of the world's largest television wall and a cavalcade of television treasures.
The new blockbuster exhibition, TV50, opens 22 June at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.
Visitors will be able to relive all their favourite television memories: from childhood favourites such as Romper Room and Mr Squiggle, to heart-warming moments such as Scott and Charlene's 1987 Neighbours wedding, to heart-stopping moments, like mankind setting foot on the moon.
The awe-inspiring backdrop to TV50 will be the NEC TV Wall - the world's largest television wall! Featuring 750 televisions and spanning 70 metres of the Screen Gallery, it will showcase amazing footage from Australia's rich television heritage, from The Graham Kennedy Show to contemporary offerings such as We Can Be Heroes.
Forget internet dating, the original 'robot cupid', Dexter from Perfect Match, will be at TV50 to offer compatibility ratings to the lovelorn. Visitors can get to know each other a little better at the bar from Blue Heelers' Imperial Hotel, or can take a stroll down Ramsay Street.
A series of public talks and forums with industry talents from both sides of the camera will provide rare insights into television production and its history.
Among the many highlights will be a session with Kitty Stuckey, award-winning Costume Designer for Kath and Kim, who will talk about shopping, styling and some of her favourite wardrobe moments with everyone's favourite 'foxy morons'.
Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to visit the fully-equipped television studio at ACMI, and be transported using green-screen technology to the set of a soap, a talk show or behind a news desk.
A full colour, illustrated catalogue and an exciting array of public programs, education and school holiday activities will accompany TV50.
