please explain? pauline hanson comes to acmi

Controversial former politician, Pauline Hanson, Sydney Olympics gold medallist, Lauren Burns and Detective Inspector Bernie Ryan will come to ACMI on 24 August to share their deeply personal stories in Australian Story on the Road, presented as part of ACMI's blockbuster TV50 exhibition.

For ten years the ABC's Australian Story has been presenting compelling insights into contemporary Australia and Australians, from many different perspectives. Australian Story on the Road will take you behind the scenes of some of the most memorable programs of the past decade to meet both the subjects and the producers.

In 1999, Australian Story presented a portrait of one of the most controversial women to emerge in Australian public life, following Pauline Hanson after One Nation's disastrous showing at the previous year's federal election, where she reflected on relationships, the media and what she had brought to the Australian political scene.

The very personal portrayal of the darling of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Lauren Burns, went to air in 2001. Many thought Lauren too small and fragile to make it in the rough and tumble world of competitive taekwondo, including her own family. Her tenacity and warrior-like attitude throughout the long and tough journey to the Olympics - which included extended periods away from her family and even beatings as part of her training in Korea - saw her overcome the naysayers and take a gold medal home.

In 2004, Australian Story told the very personal and harrowing story of Detective Inspector Bernie Ryan, the man responsible for bringing Kathleen Folbigg to justice. Folbigg was sentenced to 40 years jail for killing all four of her children, one by one, over a 10-year period. Ryan looks back on the day Folbigg entered his life, "It was a very dark day... it was the day that changed my life." The program delved into Ryan's determination to bring Folbigg to justice and the special relationship he developed with her sister, Lea Brown.

Australian Story on the Road is your chance to meet the producers and guests from one of the most powerful shows on Australian television, where they will share the very personal approach to storytelling that makes the series such a success.
