| Downhill |
Following the overwhelming success of The Lodger, Hitchcock reunited with leading man Ivor Novello to make Downhill.
Novello co-wrote and also starred, playing the wealthy schoolboy Roddy Berwick who, in a gesture of honour, assumes his best friend's guilt, which leads to his demise.
Hitchcock's belief in a visual cinema remained paramount throughout his career; he cited that "it is the silent picture training that counts". Downhill provides yet another fine example of an emerging master honing his craft.
Downhill is a silent film and will screen without sound.
"A deceptively rich and often elegant work" Mark Duguid, British Film Institute
