| Ballets Russes |
A fascinating ode to the Ballets Russes, from the period of the death of their founder, impresario Serge Diaghilev, in 1929, to a reunion of former members in New Orleans in 2000.
Directed with consummate invention and featuring interviews with surviving members (now into their seventies, eighties and nineties) the film artfully combines rare archival footage, clips from Hollywood movies, letters, journals and talking heads to assemble both an ensemble character film and wider historical portrait.
"Breathtaking. Even a stranger to dance can't help but be swept up by this peek into such exquisite, now vanished glamour"
