Iraq, My Country: An Exile's Return to Samawa

Hadi Mahood, Australia, 52 mins, 2005, Digital Betacam. Courtesy: Film Camp

In 1991 Hadi Mahood fled persecution in Iraq and arrived in Australia. Now he is returning to his hometown of Samawa to record an insider's perspective on life in Iraq post-Saddam.
Samawa is a city left in a power vacuum, caught between a new imposed democratic structure and fundamentalist Islamic forces.

Far from the usual media spin on life in Iraq this production is an intimate and personal view of a nation on the cusp of dramatic change.

Apologies, Q&A with producer Philippa Campey has been cancelled.
