enjoy the summer holidays at acmi

ACMI is open every day over the 2003/2004 summer period except Christmas Day.  There is a range of activities on offer that celebrate and explore the moving image for families, art lovers and film buffs to enjoy.

The FREE exhibition Transfigure continues daily in the subterranean Screen Gallery.  Here you can witness the impact of new media on technology, the body, space and landscape.  This is very much an interactive experience with the chance to create digital art (Sodaconstructor), take part in an online game (acmipark) or engage a talking, computer animated head in conversation (Prosthetic Head).  Get in early and book to enter one of Canadian Char Davies' immersive virtual environments (Osmose and Ephémère).

For the younger folk, the popular Kids' Flicks program continues from 6 January 2004. Animated Kids Flicks is a free mix of classic and modern animated children's shorts featuring the likes of Pepe Le Pew, Bugs Bunny from Tuesday to Friday at 11am.  On the same days at 1:30pm kids can be taken away with the magic of the academy award winning Japanese animated feature Spirited Away.

Celebrate Christmas with a gift from the ACMI shop which stocks a wide selection of apparel, screen-related books, cards, CDs and other gift ideas.  Complimentary gift-wrapping and Christmas vouchers are also available.

ACMI also offers an hour-long introductory tour exploring the history and architecture of the facility.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about ACMI's controversial design, its history and vision for the future.  Tours operate daily (except Christmas Day) at 11am and 2pm.

2004 will see a range of ACMI's popular regular events returning.  Look out for the Lounge Critic sessions, Seniors' Cinema, Popcorn Taxi and the Masters of Animation series, as well as regular Filmoteca and Cinematheque screenings.  From 8 January you can also experience the interactive digital video installation Fugitive II from Australian new media artist Simon Penny.

Add ACMI to your Christmas list and drop in during the summer to take a fresh look at the moving image in all its forms.
