Initiated and funded by Columbia Pictures in the US, Ken Hall's last full-length feature tells the adventurous tale of early Australian pioneer aviator Charles Kingsford Smith (played with engaging charisma by Ron Randell) and his historic epic flight across the Pacific.

Chronicling the hero's ongoing courage and enterprise as he devotes himself to the challenges of early trans-ocean flight, the film culminates in a suspenseful and moving finale that places Smithy's achievements in the context of postward 1946.
