acmi's next phase

ACMI has commenced an Expression of Interest (EOI) process for Exhibition Development Services as it enters the next major phase of its evolution as one of the world's unique cultural facilities.

Since opening its doors as a key attraction at Federation Square, Melbourne, in 2002, ACMI has moved through its start-up phase and is now focused on cementing its world-class position and independent voice as a leading cultural institution.

After a successful period of transition in 2005-6 and the delivery of an ambitious change program, ACMI is now commencing the next major phase of its evolution, planning for delivery of Stage 2 of a multi-year master plan.

The centrepiece of Stage 2 is the creation of a new visitor experience, which will radically change the ground floor space and provide audiences with an engaging permanent exhibition telling the story of over 100 years of the moving image.

As well as being a highly effective and exciting general-public draw, this flagship gallery will ensure ACMI makes a mark on the world stage for innovative exhibition content and design. The end result will be the most extraordinary exhibition of the moving image - a bold, engaging and popular exploration of over 100 years of the moving image, its past, present and future.

The EOI process will guide the development moving forward and assist in determining the eventual scope and scale of the exhibition.
