transfigure exhibiton reviews
What do visitors to Transfigure think about the exhibition? Here is a selection of comments from our visitors.
"Manages the challenging task of bringing a number of theory debates on consciousness, posthumanism and related fields in cyberculture to people from all walks of life in a very accessible and compelling manner. The underlying thought beneath the assembly of the exhibition also contributes to inform one further on the above mentioned issues. Transfugure makes one think and engage actively with what it means t be human in today's age with a particular view of the near future."

"Interesting. Not what I expected. Thought the exhibition was about the human figure and was expecting to see things relating to that. I'd have to admit, I really liked that piece with all the molecules - bodycode. Interesting to see how technology can be used in art! Will have to come back and spend more time . need to absorb it all in. Thanks".
Franz Albino
"WOW! What a great world we live in. I was blown away by this exhibition - one could even say that I was inspired. Thank you ACMI". Jacqui Williams"Thought-provoking, moving! After being in there for a while I'm really noticing and appreciating all the movement and sound out here. Very cool!!"
Jason Valler
"Stunning exhibition . Visually exciting, challenging. Great to be able to interact - to be 'part of the art'."
Ian Millward
"Mixed - but one of the best displays of the (multi) media to date. ie educational and illustrative of what can be done and some exceptional pieces."
Susan Hayes
"Brilliant! Inspiring display of very accomplished video works, layered in an engaging and visually stimulating exhibition".
Rebecca Parker
"A great opportunity to see some really interesting work, thanks for providing it".
Neal Haslem
"Second time round the feeling of immersion is much stronger. Digital living - a sense of exploratory bliss without the worries of your tank blowing - coming out is like being interrupted in the middle of a really nice dream with an annoying phone call from your mother in law."
Gordon Calleja
"It's great, especially Char Davies' work. Would love to incorporate navigation via movement of arms and hands. The other pieces were all interesting too!!"

"Really loved the exhibition; all of it in every way was a broadening experience. ACMI is an asset to Melbourne. " Exhibition visitor
"Excellent exhibition. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects. I participated in 'Osmose', which I found exhilarating. My young nephews, who were reluctant to visit an 'art gallery' have had a mind opening experience. I am looking forward to further exhibitions." Rob Florey
"There should be time limits for usage of the Prosthetic Head. This afternoon, all day, a lady tried to make friends with it. I want to talk to the head too!" John Sullivan
"Transfigure is the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life and I absolutely loved the exhibition. Keep up the great work. Truly an awesome experience." Dominic Quincey
"Really enjoyed it. I brought along three boys aged 12, 13, and 14 and it opened their minds to contemporary art - they look forward to coming again." Exhibition visitor
"A stimulating collection of visual images and provocative sound combinations. I especially liked Orka by Steina Vasulka for its depiction of landscapes from many different perspectives. [The viewer] is freed from viewing it as a landscape and can draw parallels to many other life forms." Janice Smith
"Very innovative and interesting. Perhaps the Stelarc prosthetic head could say 'time's up!' Some people tended to monopolise it. Overall, a great display." Camilla Horn
"Unlike any exhibition I have seen before. Quite moving and hypnotic. A great selection of works. Well done!" Andrew Brook
"An interesting variety of displays. I should have allowed more time". Roy Hosking
"It's great! I'd like to see it directly but it's a bit difficult because I live in Italy!" Francesca Bongarzoni
"Something completely different from what I have seen before. Thought provoking - well done!" Michael Tindall
"Great! I found it fascinating - almost like walking into another world. I came in expecting to spend five minutes and I've been here for two hours. Loved it. I will definitely recommend the show. Can't wait to tell all my friends." Gallery Visitor
"Very interesting. I like a lot. I will come back again when I'm in Australia. Bravó. " Robert De Silva
"Wonderful to learn that Steina is a prolific and highly regarded video artist. I'd never heard of her, even though I was born in the country she comes from. Björk and whaling boat skippers hog all the PR limelight." Tom Augustsson
"Beautiful, wondrous." Antonia Pont
"I like the talking head. It was very funny." Edina Williams
"It was refreshing to be able to see moving image shorts in the darkened atmosphere. More of the same!" Gallery Visitor
"Great!Really pleasing to the eye. I like the great use of colour involved in the exhibition. If I had to be really critical, I would say that there wasn't enough light in some areas. Thank goodness for the staff down there. I'm coming back again to show all my friends. Thanks for the experience. I loved the computer game. I now know how to get around the rest of the complex." David Voigte
"I really liked the exhibition though some areas where too dark - had a staff member point out where things were. My favourite thing was the man with the birds in his mouth. The kids really enjoyed that. Thanks." Gallery Visitor
"Came into the exhibition with little or no expectation at all. Actually stumbled into it when a staff member pointed it out - I'm glad he did. I've walked away feeling enriched and overwhelmed. Will definitely be back, perhaps to do a curated walk- through. Thank you so much for the experience." Paul Goodwin
"Transfigure was curated brilliantly. However it would have been great to see a catalogue of the exhibition." Gallery Visitor
