Spartacus
Inspired by Howard Fast's best-selling novel, executive produced by star Kirk Douglas and scripted by blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, Spartacus was heralded at the time of its release as the most intellectually rigorous epic since the silent era.

Arguably Stanley Kubrick's least auteur-driven work (he replaced the original director, Anthony Mann, after 14 days of shooting), the film abounds nonetheless with the vibrant spectacle synonymous with his cinema - including unforgettable gladiator battle sequences between Kirk Douglas and Woody Strode.

Also stars Peter Ustinov, Laurence Olivier, Charles Laughton, Tony Curtis and Jean Simmons.

Imported 35mm print.
