future of tv looking foggy at acmi
FogScreen
A thick heavy fog descended on the Australian Centre for the Moving Image for three days this week, and it had nothing to do with the Melbourne weather.
The FogScreen creates a thin wall of fog that makes objects appear and move as if in mid-air. You can even walk through them!
It's based on a new technology fog-generating device. Using water and ultrasonic waves, it effectively creates a frame-less screen, onto which high quality images are projected.
Put your hand into the fog flow and it feels dry and cool, and doesn't get wet. With your finger you can write or draw onto the screen and your efforts miraculously remain floating in the air.
The FogScreen is now travelling to Sydney for a brief demonstration before returning to ACMI in November, where it will be featuring in Eyes, Lies & Illusions, an exhibition that will take visitors into the world of optical illusions and trickery.
