This tightly woven mystery drama from director Ken Hannam (Sunday Too Far Away, Robbery Under Arms) centres on a new schoolteacher (Nick Tate) in a small seaside town who becomes concerned with the unexplained disappearance of his predecessor.

Curiosity leads him to discover that one of his students has a rare blood disease, and he is drawn into a convoluted intrigue that culminates in a gripping climax.

Visually striking, Summerfield's air of brooding atmosphere owes a significant debt to the cinematography of Mike Molloy (Mad Dog Morgan), and understated performances from an ensemble cast including Elizabeth Alexander, Max Cullen, Geraldine Turner and John Waters.
