Dr. Russell Naughton is the Online Services Coordinator for Radio Australia, the international shortwave radio, satellite and now 'netcasting' service of the government funded but autonomously managed, Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Russell joined 'Auntie', the 'ABC', in 1968 and in his 'pre-web' years worked on such global media events as the first moon landing through to the war in the Persian Gulf.

On a more positive note, Russell 'moonlighted' as a freelance music producer during the 1970s rebirth of the Australian film industry working on films such as Mad Max or as it was known in the US, The Road Warrior.

In 1996 Russell lobbied the ABC to allow him to once again 'change horses' to create a website for Radio Australia, seen at the time (during those early days of the Web) as a waste of time and resources for the then still largely 'traditionally orientated' broadcaster.

The site was and continues to be an outstanding success.

Russell recently received his Ph.D. based on this work, 'a radio for the future?', and the associated research website 'Adventures in CyberSound', a vast repository of text and imagery highlighting the past 200 years of discovery and innovation in the associated media fields of telegraphy, telephony, radio, television and cinema.

When not online, Russell assumes and enjoys an almost 'non electric' lifestyle with his wife Roz and 15 year old son Alistair.
