Emile Reynaud's Praxinoscope, 1878

The Praxinoscope was an optical toy showing moving pictures, invented by the French artist, Emile Reynaud (1844 - 1918), which used strips of drawings around the circumference of a mirrored drum. Here, the picture strips are shown in the foreground.
