Overview

In mid 1999 I was contacted by Steve Restelli who wrote in part...

"I have 2 photo albums that were his [Vladimir Zworykin's] personal albums. The first is from his early days in the 30's with RCA and the second is from his 1951 marriage and trip around the world [...] I have no interest in selling these, but I would consider letting you reproduce these images under license.[...]"

Thanks,

Steve Restelli

The Collection

Part 1: RCA, USA, 1934-37

This is a selection from the main collection of photographs taken for and by Vladimir Zworykin at RCA in and around the mid 1930's as he and his team were developing the Iconoscope.

The unit scanned 120 lines at 24 frames/second
RCA, 1934

NB: Although this is the stated caption, the device, to the author, seems to be a 'Nipkow' disk based device for scanning film (NB: the film? cannister). This image needs further research.

Part 2: Australia, December, 1951

In 1951 Zworykin married Dr. Katherine Polevitsky. He also visited Australia and spoke at Melbourne University. The images below come from this period. More exact details regarding the visit will be researched.

NB: Although this is stated to be a passport photograph, the lighting on the face suggests that this may be a photograph of a television image. This needs to be confirmed.
