| The Phantom Stockman |
An engaging Australian 'western' set in Alice Springs,
The Phantom Stockman tells the tale of young cattle station heiress Kim Marsden who, convinced that her father has been murdered, sends for a legendary bushman known as 'the Sundowner' (Chips Rafferty). With his Aboriginal offsider (Henry Murdoch), the Sundowner tracks down the gang of perpetrators.
The first of two successful collaborations between Rafferty and director Lee Robinson, critics extolled the novelty of the settings, effective action scenes and suspenseful score, provided mainly by solo guitar.
Features Albert Namatjira in his only feature film appearance.
