The Lodger
Hitchcock's first thriller is a take on Jack the Ripper, starring matinee idol Ivor Novello. Norvello plays a mysterious lodger whose motives and identity are scrutinised by his landlords and their beautiful daughter's jealous boyfriend.

Set against a backdrop of a city beset with terror, this silent tale of love, vengeance and mistaken identity drew heavily on the director's love of European art cinema. Awash with the terror close-ups and dark alleys of German Expressionism, The Lodger is widely considered the first 'true' signature film from the master of suspense.

The Lodger
is a silent film and will screen with recorded score.
