Copyright Checklist

  1. Clearly define who is an "employee" and who is an "independent contractor" in all employment contracts.
  2. Clearly define areas of responsibility and job descriptions in all employment contracts.
  3. Include intellectual policy statement in all contracts, tenders, or briefs.
  4. Determine whether licensing or assignment is the best method of copyright management for you.
  5. Determine whether a universal intellectual policy is required for all productions or whether it should be determined on a case-by-case basis.
  6. Map and Chart all copyrights for productions or products.
  7. Define organisational policy in relation to royalty payments.
  8. Determine whether your organisation works in a collaborative manner and whether joint ownership over Work is required.
  9. Ensure schedules are attached to all agreements outlining proposed use of promotional materials and required use of third-party material.

  15. Determine whether current contracts include the ability to promote Work in new media such as world wide web.
  16. To realise long-term marketing and corporate goals determine whether your organisation requires additional equipment or expertise.
  17. Determine whether current management has access or knowledge of existing copyright agreements in repertoire productions.
  18. Determine whether your organisation intends or desires to utilise new technologies to broaden its market reach.
  19. Determine whether your organisation can afford to produce Multimedia Products.
  20. Determine whether alternative methods of production ie back-end payments are appropriate for your organisation to realise these products.
