Deep Red
Despite his indisputable reputation as a progenitor of the 'slasher' movie, Argento's films also derive their inspiration from the literary genre of the giallo, the popular term in Italy for pulp detective fiction, upon which Argento grafts darker supernatural currents.

In Deep Red, Englishman Marc Daly (David Hemmings) witnesses a violent murder and discovers his rational perceptions are no foil against sinister forces as he becomes enmeshed in the dangerous 'investigation' to uncover the killer.

Imported 35mm print.
