The 1980 gothic fantasy sequel to
Suspiria - which continues Argento's
'Three Mothers' trilogy - is possibly Argento's most surreal.
Even more expressionistic than
Suspiria, this film seems to operate in a disturbed psychic register, rendered through surreal Magritte-like objects and morphing colours.
"Imagine combining Hitchcock's
Psycho, Victor Fleming's
The Wizard of Oz and Dante Alighieri's fourteenth century poem.set to Verdi's 1842 opera
Nabucco and discordant music from Emerson, Lake and Palmer"
Kinoeye.
Imported 35mm print.
