The latest film from Tony Gatlif (
Gadjo Dilo,
Latcho Drom,
Exiles) features Asia Argento in the role of Zingarina (literally 'little gypsy'), a woman who travels to Transylvania in search of her lover, Milan (Marco Castaldi - the real-life father of Asia's six-year-old daughter Anna Lou).
In Gatlif's evocatively shot and spirited, music-driven odyssey, however, it is the rough charm of a loner named Tchangalo (Birol Unel, last seen in Fatih Akin's impressive
Head On) that appears set to have a more profound impression upon Zingarina.
Melbourne premiere.
