| The Overlanders |
When ordered to kill 1,000 head of cattle rather than risk losing them to the Japanese, Australian action star Chips Rafferty herds the cattle across the Australian continent.
The 2,000-mile cattle drive results in costly personal losses to Rafferty and his fellow drovers, but in the end their sacrifices are invaluable.
Based on a true story,
The Overlanders was specifically selected for adaptation to film as a morale-booster for postwar Australian audiences and was the first non-British film to be produced by Michael Balcon's Ealing Studios.
