about the author

Gary Simmons had a respected career as a teacher of English, literature and the moving image. From 1992-94 he was Education Officer at the Victorian Association for the Teaching of English (VATE), and he taught at University High School in 1995-96 before undertaking postgraduate study in cinema studies. In 1999 he taught in a Junior College in Singapore before taking on the role as a Secondary School Education Programmer at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, while completing his Master's degree exploring representations of masculinity in Australian film.
