Based on her own novel, Breillat's first film to receive theatrical distribution outside Europe is a gritty and exciting pas de deux between the headstrong 14-year-old Lili, wrestling with her desire to lose her virginity, and the aging Romeo whom she fascinates.

Also features Jean-Pierre Léaud who, in a much earlier role in Truffaut's The 400 Blows, portrayed the same kind of angry, alienated adolescent who now confronts him in Lili.
