Altman assembles a dizzying ensemble of stars, actors and celebrities in an elaborately woven satirical comedy set during the annual Ready-to-Wear fashion shows in Paris.
High fashion is scrutinized with the critical glare and ironic wit typical of Altman in a film with a post-modern sensibility 'designed to seduce and dressed to kill'. (Yes, there's a murder mystery in it too...and Icelandic pop icon Bjork as a fashion model!)
Chief among the film's delights is the on-screen reunion of Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni who playfully recreate their famous striptease scene from Vittorio De Sica's 1963 comedy Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (Ieri, oggi, domani). And oh yes, Loren sports some rather fetching Bulgari jewels too.
Julia Roberts, Tim Robbins, Kim Basinger and Tracey Ullman co-star, with cameos by a galaxy of screen divas and fashion designers including Anouk Aimee, Lauren Bacall, Jean Paul Gaultier and Christian Lacroix.
