Train No. 1 is one of the first multi-channel works from my ongoing TimeSlice project.

Using an inner city Melbourne train as a giant tracking device, the monocular (single) spatial perspective of a conventional camera is disassembled to form extended polyocular (multiple) images.

By isolating and exaggerating the interwoven elements that construct perspective and motion, I aim to break down the traditional correlation between space and time in order to make possible new ways of seeing. - Daniel Crooks

Daniel Crooks, b. 1973, Hastings, New Zealand
A graduate of the Auckland Institute of Technology and the Victorian College of the Arts School of Film and Television, Crooks works in time-based media including video, photography and installation.

In 2002, his solo exhibition TimeSlice was held at The Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne. In 2003 he exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; ZKM, Karlsruhe; and the Palau de la Virreina, Barcelona. In 2004 his videos and prints were exhibited at Sherman Galleries, Sydney; SBS Television (ARTV); and PICA, Perth.

Crooks is currently artist in residence at the Rijksakademie van Beelden Kunsten in Amsterdam.
