Our Civic Lives: Artist Workshop
Over the last 7 years, Joe Lawlor has co-directed a series of beautiful and critically acclaimed films exploring the relationship between community, belonging and place. Called Civic Life, the narratives of the films are developed through consultation with communities about the places that matter to them.
In this artist workshop, Joe will share his experience working with communities and the challenges and issues this type of filmmaking presents.
He will talk about securing funding from non-screen agencies, working with non-professional performers, moving from making shorts to features, the festival circuit and what it's like working on international co-productions.
Joe will also workshop ideas for micro-short films inspired by ideas of place, community and identity, and participants will have the opportunity to have their film featured on the website of the latest Civic Life film, Tiong Bahru.
Suited to artists and filmmakers. Limited numbers.
To coincide with this workshop, we will also be screening Civic Life. View session details.
