Boyfriends and Girlfriends
The sixth and final installment in Rohmer's "Comedies and Proverbs" series is a charming but deceptive film that chronicles the social and romantic worlds of two young women who meet by chance in the institutionalised tranquility of Cergy-Pontoise.
Blanche (Emmanuelle Chaulet) is a bureaucrat working in the cultural sector, while Lea (Sophie Renoir) is a glamorous and carefree student searching for men and fun. The laissez-faire interactions between the two women and the men they pursue seem guided and lulled by the manicured buildings and lakes of the city; an environment as unattached as its heroines.
