Eroica
The first instalment in Munk's war trilogy is divided into two sections - the tragicomic Scherzo Alla Polacca and Ostinato Lugubre.
Scherzo Alla Polacca portrays the military decoration of a cowardly Warsaw Uprising deserter, played by Edward Dziewonski. Ostinato Lugubre follows, depicting the absurd operations of a POW camp established to detain Polish soldiers.
Munk deftly weaves black humour into his 'heroic symphony', presenting an engaging satire on duty, courage and heroism.
