The Hourglass Sanatorium
Józef (Jan Nowicki) travels by train to see his father at a sanatorium. There, he encounters a mind-bendingly dreamlike world where the boundaries between reality and fantasy are blurred bringing several key episodes of Józef's past to life.
An important surrealistic work of early '70s Polish cinema, the film is based on the now celebrated writings of Bruno Schulz (The Street of Crocodiles). Killed by the Gestapo in 1942, Schulz was a major influence on Has.
Winner of the Jury Prize at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival.
