New Wave (Nouvelle vague)
When a hitchhiker (Alain Delon) is involved in a road accident with an Italian heiress (Domiziana Giordano), the assumptions of everyday reality come apart at the seams.
Godard exploits this narrative device to explore the dialectical relationship between sound and image, man and woman, art and commerce, and wealth and poverty.
Ravishingly shot by William Lubtchansky, a constantly tracking and craning camera only occasionally intersects with a dense soundtrack of music, ambient noise and quotations (with every line purportedly taken from a literary source).
