The Saragossa Manuscript
The Saragossa Manuscript
A Spanish officer fighting in the Battle of Saragossa discovers a manuscript detailing the exploits of his grandfather during the Spanish Inquisition.

Based on the novel by Jan Potocki, this epic, trippy tale laden with gothic, erotic, humorous and mysterious overtones, was reputedly a favourite of Luis Buñuel.

The full, uncut version of the film was finally made available outside of Poland during the 1990s after restoration was funded by the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, with help from Martin Scorsese (who has also widely championed the film) and Francis Ford Coppola.
