Three Lives and Only One Death
The wonderful Marcello Mastroianni plays not one but all four characters of the film's title in his penultimate and arguably most enchanting performance.
Through the magnificent slipperiness of Ruiz's storytelling, the four distinct tales begin to enter into each other's histories, histories that are themselves laced with their own fantasies and surrealist circumstance as we become increasingly unsure of whom is who or if indeed they are all the one person.
Also featuring Mastroianni's daughter, Chiara. Co-written by Ruiz and Pascale Bonitzer. With Marisa Paredes.
