Our cult movie poster competition took place last year, in which we invited you to dream up your own cult movie idea and to design a poster for it. The calibre of all entries was truly inspiring, so we thought we'd continue to share them with you! Flick through some films-that-never-were on these pages.

Our judging panel:
Kat Mew, Interactive/Web Designer, ACMI
Lisa Pieroni, Curator, Freaky Fridays Late Night Cult program, ACMI
Special guest judge Rob Jan, presenter Zero-G, 3RRR FM

(see the judges comments below)

ACMI would like to acknowledge the support of MRA Entertainment for providing the cult DVD prize packs.

"How good were these posters! We had some great illustration work, including hand-drawn masterpieces, collages and photoshop mash-ups. But who could go past Lesbian Killer Bikini Vampire Girls? It's the coolest Russ Meyer/Hammer Horror showdown of all-time. I gotta see that happen."
Kat Mew, Interactive/Web Designer, ACMI

"Congratulations to all the contestants! In a strong field the winners were neck and neck, united in their ability to instantly conjure up, in my imagination, cast, voiceover, dialogue and plot elements, as well as stimulate an urgent desire to rush to the nearest drive-in to see the 'advertised' film immediately!"
Lisa Pieroni, Curator, Freaky Fridays Late Night Cult program, ACMI

"If schlock filmmakers put as much genuine creativity into making their Z-Grade films as went into these competition entries, then there wouldn't be a genre to send up. Seriously.... I want copies of all these feral films, preferably on 16mm, Betamax cassette or even Viewmaster stereoscope discs. Coming soon to a discount DVD retail dumper bin near you, and overpriced at $2.95...."
Special guest judge Rob Jan, presenter Zero-G, 3RRR FM

Rob Jan's Zero-G: Science Fiction, Fantasy & Historical Radio Show has been a genre institution for over a decade on Melbourne's 3RRR FM; long enough for Rob's straitjacket to have its own hand-stitched monogram embroidered on the chest. A self styled uber-geek, when he is not broadcasting Rob's a writer, artist and costumer whose work is more often than not informed by the genres that have engulfed his life. Zero-G is unleashed every Monday between 1 and 2 pm on 102.7 mhz (live audiostreaming at rrr.org.au) and theoretically represents no real threat to life, the universe and everything. So much for theory!
