wrapped in plastic: the strange worlds of david lynch

david lynch

Who killed Laura Palmer? Was that question ever important to watching Twin Peaks?  Was it even important to David Lynch? It's been over a decade since Twin Peaks captivated and disturbed us.  But fans know that Lynch's surreal visions on TV have gone on to become signature motifs in films such as Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Join Dr. Felicity Colman, writer Martyn Pedler, and film critic Saige Walton as they debate the puzzling narratives, endless questions, the fandom, and the aesthetic practices of cult-director David Lynch.

Dr. Felicity Colman lectures in the Cinema Studies and Art History Programs at the University of Melbourne in the areas of experimental, avant-garde, and feminist practice. She is currently researching a book on theories of temporality in screen culture.

Martyn Pedler is a Fitzroy writer of prose, theatre, and tv-poetry whose work has appeared in Meanjin, Westerly, and Overland. His show "Eccentric Billionaire" also featured in the 2002 New Wave Festival. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is the only movie he's ever had to turn off because it was too damn scary.

Freelance film-writer and academic Saige Walton is a PhD candidate in the Cinema Studies Program at the University of Melbourne where she also teaches. She has presented her work in Australia and the US and is the regular film critic for Melbourne magazine.
