http://vels.vcaa.vic.edu.au/ The
Digital Diaries program invites a diverse range of people to share a personal story as they connect memories by way of simple moving images. Participants in the workshops look at one 'moment' in their lives and, concentrating on the simplicity and power of that one moment in time, create a 'lo-fi' video work that speaks to the mind and heart.
Digital Diaries sets out to demystify the process of filmmaking and to demonstrate that 'story' is more important than access to expensive technology. Participants choose a topic and write a brief monologue, record it and capture a series of images on camera. The voice over is then edited to a selection of moving images and photographs.
When complete the diary is burnt to DVD for the participants to keep. Workshops are conducted with young people from around Victoria.
Digital Diaries workshops are run for secondary school groups in ACMI's state of the art Studio 2 at Federation Square. In a full day of production students learn to fine tune their story, record it, and use software tools to craft their video production - their
Digital Diary.
