Reality TV: Community and Identity
The rise of reality TV programming has changed the television landscape by placing ordinary people at the centre of prime time. As well as playing with the boundaries between real life and entertainment, many reality TV shows have promoted online audience interactivity, contributing to a sense of shared community.
This 90-minute session encourages students to think about the breadth and popularity of reality TV programming, the on-screen representation of participants and the connection forged with viewers.
