Documenting one family's experience of apartheid, Skin explores the destructive impact of the policy on South African society as a whole.
Based on the experience of Sandra Laing, the film tells the story of a child born to white parents but classified as coloured on the basis of her skin colour. Skin highlights the capacity of racism and discrimination to strike at the heart of family, community and individual identity.
Focusing on issues of belonging and identity, the lecture explores the complex relationship between the individual, the family, the community and the nation.
This program can also be requested as an ESL session.
